Mr. Pereyra
Benjamin Pereyra graduated from George Mason University with a Bachelor of Music in Instrumental Music Education. While at Mason, Mr. Pereyra studied viola with National Symphony violinist/violist Edwin Johonnot, National Sympony Orchestra violist Raymond Scavelli and Kennedy Center Opera House violist Phillippe Chao. He was a principal violist of the Symphony and Chamber Orchestra and was one of the first string players to perform with the school’s pep band, Doc Nix and the Green Machine. While at George Mason University, Mr. Pereyra was a charter member of the Phi Mu Alpha Music Fraternity, Rho Omicron Chapter and was inducted as an Honorary Member of Kappa Kappa Psi Band Fraternity, Mu Omicron Chapter.
Mr. Pereyra is a graduate of Prince William County School, Gar-Field Senior High School, where he began taking private viola lessons with Patty Plombom. Returning to Prince William County, Benjamin Pereyra is the orchestra director, adaptive music teacher and the assistant director to the Marching Bruin Band at Forest Park High School in Woodbridge Virginia. Mr. Pereyra regularly performs with the American Festival Pops Orchestra, Manassas Chorale and Fredericksburg Symphony. Previously to teaching in the public school system Mr. Pereyra worked for nearly a decade with the National Symphony orchestra’s Summer Music Institute. During his time at the Kennedy Center he was able to participate in rehearsals with the National Symphony Orchestra, and has had the privilege of performing on both the Millennium stage and the Orchestra Concert Hall. When Mr. Pereyra is not at school teaching, he can be found with his wife and two children, smoking a brisket and jamming on other instruments.
